Oilfield Engineering with Polymers: conference and exhibition
SPRA Corporate Member, Caledonian Industries used their table top exhibition space at the MERL 'Oilfield Engineering with Polymers' International Conference and Exhibition, in London in September, for useful networking between conference sessions.
Colin Clements, Technical Manager at Caledonian Industries reported that the conference, which was attended by over 200 delegates, concentrated on the demands made on polymeric materials within oilfield applications (high & low temperature performance, pressures up to 300MPa, rapid gas decompression resistance, compatibility etc). There was an interesting technical programme including developments in materials such as fluoropolymers, reinforcing fibres and composite materials as well as developments in oilfield applications including composite pipes, pipe liners, seals for CO2 and H2S injection, wire & cable coatings and laminated elastomeric parts. Papers were presented from at least 10 countries around the world, with polymer companies such as Victrex, Ticona, Evonik, Du Pont, Solvay contributing. On the end-user side, papers were submitted by Schlumberger, Statoil, Baker Hughes and Exxon-Mobil.
In November Caledonian Industries attended an Offshore Wind Energy workshop in Dundee.
