Hugh Smith is admitted as a Freeman of the Horners

SPRA Past President Hugh Smith lines up with the Beadle to make his declaration

During the Court meeting on Candlemas day (2nd February 2010) SPRA Past President Hugh Smith was admitted to the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Horners in a short ceremony at Painters' Hall. The second day of February is stipulated in the Company's Royal Charter of 1638 as the day upon which the Master and Wardens are to be elected and installed into office. Colin Richards was installed as Master, David Williams as Upper Warden, Georgina Scott as Renter Warden, and Mark Spofford as the Deputy Master.

The annual Election Service was held at the nearby church of St James Garlickhythe marking the start of the Horners' year. Back at Painters' Hall after the service there was a reception followed by an excellent lunch.
