SPRA
Technical Meeting
Topic: Thermoforming:
"Simulation - a vehicle to improve design and technology"
Venue:
Room B32, Merchiston Campus, Edinburgh Napier University
Time: 6.30 for 7.00 pm
Speaker: David Russell (David
Russell Associates) |
David
Russell, with over 30 years experience in the plastics
industry, mostly related to thermoforming and including pioneering
high pressure forming in the UK, has recently been operating as a
consultant for the thermoforming sector. He represented Rapra Technology
for 3 years in the €4.8 million EU-funded T-ForM project and
was introduced to T-Sim simulation software for thermoforming.
Since then he has represented Accuform, developers of T-Sim
and B-Sim, in the UK.
David's presentation
will describe the benefits of simulation software for thermoforming
(T-Sim) and blow moulding (B-Sim). The software helps to optimise
part design, tool design and processing conditions before a tool
is cut. The 'what-if?' facility in the software lets moulders work
off-line with designers to optimise designs.
The presentation
will show T-Sim in action, including the latest release, which automatically
changes the shape of the plug to optimise material distribution
and cost.

Venue: Edinburgh Napier University |
This popular
4-day course gives teachers of science, design, technology and engineering
an opportunity to extend their understanding of polymeric material,
experience hands-on practical work and visit local plastics companies.
Teachers from different disciplines and from a variety of education
authorities throughout the UK can meet informally to discuss mutual
issues of teaching the science, design and technology associated
with polymer materials. Teachers will also learn more about career
prospects in the plastics and rubber industries.
The programme
includes:
lectures from Edinburgh Napier University staff.
presentations from a series of guest speakers.
polymer workshop: to make things, break things and learn to identify
plastics
visits to 3 local plastics companies
opportunities
to take photographs and videos and compile teaching materials
